When you think of Brazil, Rio or São Paulo are the first places that come to mind – but Balneário Camboriú is the little gem that never ceases to surprise me. This city on the Atlantic coast of the state of Santa Catarina is like a miniature version of Miami – only more Brazilian, more colourful, more lively.
For me, 2025 actually began here: with the sun on my face, salt in my hair and a wealth of new impressions and inspiration. I spent days working on new songs, often with a view of the beach and the sea, where the rhythm of the waves and the pulse of the city all flowed into my music.

Balneário Camboriú – where inspiration meets the sound of the sea

In the evening, the city comes alive. The skyscrapers are reflected in the water, and the lights along Avenida Atlântica dance to the beat of the night. Between street food, caipirinhas and spontaneous beach concerts, I remembered my dream: music, travel and freedom.

Perhaps it was this moment – when a street musician somewhere played a melancholic bossa nova version of a pop song – that gave me the courage to finally finish writing my song. It’s about setting out, about the courage to overcome boundaries – and about how music builds bridges, whether between oceans or continents.
Another unexpected stop, perhaps in Vienna – ESC 2026, here I come!

Apparently, there were over 500 applications, so I realize that it’s not easy to even make it to the preliminary round. But anyway, maybe it will work out. Many years ago, some of my students asked me why I didn’t apply for the ESC. I usually said that I was too old and not suitable. Many years later, I don’t think about it so much anymore – my motto is “Time to Be.” My song is a mixture of Brazilian fire and Western rock sound – with a pinch of coastal wind from Balneário Camboriú “Between the Waves and the Stars.

Conclusion: travelling, being, singing

This trip showed me that places are more than just backdrops – they are sound spaces. Balneário Camboriú gave me inspiration, Vienna may give me the stage.

Wenn man an Brasilien denkt, kommen einem zuerst Rio oder São Paulo in den Sinn – doch Balneário Camboriú ist das kleine Juwel, das mich immer wieder überrascht. Diese Stadt an der Atlantikküste des Bundesstaates Santa Catarina ist wie eine Miniaturausgabe von Miami – nur brasilianischer, bunter, lebendiger.
Für mich begann das Jahr 2025 eigentlich erst hier: mit Sonne im Gesicht, Salz in den Haaren und einer Menge neuer Eindrücke + Inspirationen. Ich verbrachte Tage damit, an neuen Songs zu feilen, oft mit Blick auf den Strand und das Meer, wo der Rhythmus der Wellen und das Pulsieren der Stadt – all das in meine Musik einfloss.

Balneário Camboriú – wo Inspiration auf Meeresrauschen trifft

Am Abend erwacht die Stadt. Die Hochhäuser spiegeln sich im Wasser, und die Lichter entlang der Avenida Atlântica tanzen im Takt der Nacht. Zwischen Streetfood, Caipirinhas und spontanen Strandkonzerten habe ich mich an meinen Traum erinnert: Musik, Reisen und Freiheit.

Vielleicht war es dieser Moment – als irgendwo ein Straßenmusiker eine melancholische Bossa-Nova-Version eines Popsongs spielte –, der mir den Mut gab, meinen Song endlich fertig zu schreiben. Er handelt vom Aufbruch, vom Mut, Grenzen zu überwinden – und davon, dass Musik Brücken baut, egal ob zwischen Ozeanen oder Kontinenten.
Ein weiterer und unerwarteter Stopp, vielleicht in Wien – ESC 2026, ich komme!

Es gab anscheinend über 500 Bewerbungen und somit ist mir bewusst, dass dies nicht einfach ist, um überhaupt in eine Ausscheidungsrunde zu kommen. Aber egal, vielleicht klappt’s. Schon vor vielen Jahren haben mich einige SchülerInnen gefragt, warum ich mich nicht für den ESC bewerben würde. Ich sagte meistens, dass ich dafür zu alt und nicht passend sei. Viele Jahre später denke ich nicht mehr so viel nach – ganz unter dem Motto „Time to Be“. Mein Song ist eine Mischung aus brasilianischem Feuer und westlichem Rocksound – mit einer Prise Küstenwind aus Balneário Camboriú „Between the Waves and the Stars“.

Fazit: Reisen, Sein, Singen

Diese Reise hat mir gezeigt, dass Orte mehr sind als nur Kulissen – sie sind Klangräume. Balneário Camboriú hat mir Inspiration geschenkt, Wien gibt mir vielleicht die Bühne.

Nestled among the green hills of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina lies a place that surprises at first sight: Dreizehnlinden – or, in Portuguese, Treze Tílias. Walking through the village, you’ll find Tyrolean-style architecture, traditional costumes, brass band music, and warm hospitality reminiscent of the Austrian Alps. But how did a piece of Tyrol find its way to the tropical south of the Americas?

The story begins in Wildschönau, a picturesque high valley in Tyrol. Where tourists today enjoy mountain views, the 1920s were marked by poverty and uncertainty. Unemployment, political upheaval, and economic hardship drove many people to emigrate. Among them was Andreas Thaler, a charismatic politician and visionary who dared to attempt the seemingly impossible: founding a new Tyrolean homeland on another continent.

A Journey into the Unknown

In 1933, Thaler set out on a long journey across the Atlantic to southern Brazil with a small group of like-minded settlers. In Santa Catarina, a region of dense forests and untamed land, they finally found a place where their dream could take root. There they founded the settlement Dreizehnlinden, named after thirteen linden trees that symbolized home, community, and new beginnings.

What began as a daring experiment has become a living example of how culture can transcend borders. In Treze Tílias, many people still speak German, maintain Tyrolean traditions, celebrate folk festivals, and wear traditional costumes – all under the Brazilian sun. At the same time, the town has become a popular travel destination attracting visitors from all over the world. Dreizehnlinden is more than a cultural curiosity – it is a symbol of courage, solidarity, and the longing for a better future. The story of these Tyrolean pioneers reminds us that home is not just a place, but something you carry with you, live, and pass on.

Heading for the Sea – My Journey Continues

After the quiet mountains and Tyrolean warmth of Dreizehnlinden, my journey now takes me through Blumenau and onward to Balneário Camboriú. A few hours away, a completely different Brazil awaits: skyscrapers, endless beaches, sun, sand, and sea – a touch of Miami on the Atlantic coast. It’s fascinating how closely tradition and modernity, Alpine charm and coastal life, coexist in Santa Catarina. From the tranquil Tyrolean settlement to the vibrant seaside city – my Brazilian journey shows just how diverse this country truly is.

Inmitten der grünen Hügel des brasilianischen Bundesstaates Santa Catarina liegt ein Ort, der auf den ersten Blick überrascht: Dreizehnlinden – oder auf Portugiesisch Treze Tílias. Wer durch das Dorf spaziert, entdeckt Tiroler Architektur und Trachten, Blasmusik und herzliche Gastfreundschaft, wie man sie sonst eher aus den Alpen kennt. Doch wie kam ein Stück Tirol in den tropischen Süden Amerikas?

Die Geschichte beginnt in der Wildschönau, einem malerischen Hochtal in Tirol. Dort, wo heute Touristen die Bergwelt genießen, herrschten in den 1920er-Jahren Armut und Unsicherheit. Arbeitslosigkeit, politische Umbrüche und wirtschaftliche Krisen trieben viele Menschen zur Auswanderung. Einer von ihnen war Andreas Thaler, ein charismatischer Politiker und Visionär, der den Mut hatte, das scheinbar Unmögliche zu wagen: die Gründung einer neuen Tiroler Heimat – auf einem anderen Kontinent.

Eine Reise ins Ungewisse

Mit einer kleinen Gruppe Gleichgesinnter machte sich Thaler 1933 auf die lange Reise über den Atlantik nach Südbrasilien. In Santa Catarina, einem Landstrich voller dichter Urwälder und unerschlossener Gebiete, fanden sie schließlich einen Ort, an dem ihr Traum Wurzeln schlagen konnte. Dort gründeten sie die Siedlung Dreizehnlinden, benannt nach den dreizehn Lindenbäumen, die symbolisch für Heimat, Gemeinschaft und Neubeginn standen.

Was damals als waghalsiges Experiment begann, ist heute ein lebendiges Beispiel dafür, wie Kultur Grenzen überschreiten kann. In Treze Tílias sprechen viele Menschen noch Deutsch, pflegen Tiroler Bräuche, feiern Volksfeste und tragen Trachten – und dass alles unter der brasilianischen Sonne. Gleichzeitig hat sich der Ort zu einem beliebten Reiseziel entwickelt, das Besucher aus aller Welt anzieht. Dreizehnlinden ist mehr als ein kulturelles Kuriosum – es ist ein Symbol für Mut, Zusammenhalt und die Sehnsucht nach einer besseren Zukunft. Die Geschichte dieser Tiroler Pioniere erinnert uns daran, dass Heimat nicht nur ein Ort ist, sondern etwas, das man mitnimmt, lebt und weitergibt.

Aufbruch ans Meer – meine Reise geht weiter

Nach den stillen Bergen und der Tiroler Herzlichkeit von Dreizehnlinden zieht es mich nun über Blumenau weiter – nach Balneário Camboriú. Einige Stunden entfernt, erwartet mich dort ein völlig anderes Brasilien: Hochhäuser, endlose Strände, Sonne, Strand und Meer. Ein Hauch von Miami an der Atlantikküste.
Es ist faszinierend, wie nah in Santa Catarina Tradition und Moderne, Alpenflair und Küstenleben beieinander liegen. Von der beschaulichen Tiroler Siedlung ins pulsierende Küstenparadies – meine brasilianische Reise zeigt, wie vielfältig dieses Land ist.

My journey through Brazil began in the vibrant megacity of São Paulo – the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere. A place that never sleeps, full of life and energy. But my heart was already set on the next destination: Iguazú – one of the most breathtaking natural wonders on Earth.

From the moment I saw the Iguaçu Falls from above, I knew I was in for something special. The helicopter flight over the mighty gorge and the roaring waters gave me a true sense of the power and size of this natural marvel. The „Garganta do Diabo“ – the Devil’s Throat – was especially impressive, showcasing nature’s raw and untamed force.

I also had the chance to explore the surrounding rainforest, where I observed brightly colored birds in their natural habitat. Brazil is the most biodiverse country in the world, and you feel it instantly – this place is a sacred temple of nature.

After this overwhelming nature experience, I continued by car to Treze Tílias, also known in German as Dreizehnlinden. A unique little town in the state of Santa Catarina, founded in 1933 by the Tyrolean immigrant Andreas Thaler. The town’s name comes from the epic poem “Dreizehnlinden” by Wilhelm Weber – a story that shares similarities with the Nibelungenlied.

I was lucky enough to visit during the local town festival – and what can I say: I met some of the kindest and most welcoming people I’ve ever encountered. The atmosphere, the traditions, the music – it all felt like a little piece of Tyrol in the middle of the Brazilian jungle.

A very special thanks goes to Karina Pattis Reiter, the local tourism manager, who kindly picked me up from the hotel and showed me all the different places around town. I honestly didn’t expect such warm hospitality.

My stay at the Park Hotel was also a highlight – a charming, beautifully run hotel that perfectly reflects the spirit of this unique town. Honestly, I wished I could have stayed longer.

My current video blog only shows a short glimpse of Dreizehnlinden – but I experienced so much that I’ll definitely share more in an upcoming post. I could have easily made it into a three-hour documentary!

Conclusion: Brazil is a country full of contrasts – from a bustling metropolis to thundering waterfalls, and finally to a Tyrolean village nestled in lush greenery. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Brazil surprises you again.

Mein Brasilien-Abenteuer begann in der Megametropole São Paulo – der größten Stadt der Südhalbkugel. Eine Stadt, die pulsiert, vibriert und niemals schläft. Aber mein Herz schlug schon für das nächste Ziel: Iguazú – eines der beeindruckendsten Naturwunder unserer Erde.

Schon beim Anflug auf die Cataratas do Iguaçu war klar: Hier wartet etwas ganz Besonderes. Der Hubschrauberflug über die gewaltige Schlucht und die tosenden Wassermassen war atemberaubend. Der „Garganta do Diabo“ – der Teufelsschlund – zeigte mir die rohe Kraft der Natur in ihrer spektakulärsten Form. Und als ob das noch nicht genug wäre, führte mich ein Ausflug in den angrenzenden Regenwald, wo ich farbenprächtige Vögel in freier Wildbahn beobachten konnte. Kein Wunder, dass Brasilien das artenreichste Land der Welt ist – man spürt sofort, dass dieser Ort ein heiliger Tempel der Natur ist.

Nach diesem Naturrausch ging es weiter – mit dem Auto nach Treze Tílias, oder wie wir auf Deutsch sagen: Dreizehnlinden. Eine Stadt wie aus einer anderen Welt, mitten im Grünen des Bundesstaates Santa Catarina, gegründet 1933 vom Tiroler Andreas Thaler. Der Name stammt vom gleichnamigen Epos „Dreizehnlinden“ von Wilhelm Weber – eine Sage, die in Teilen an das Nibelungenlied erinnert.

Ich hatte das Glück, genau zum Stadtfest dort zu sein – und was soll ich sagen: Ich habe selten so herzliche, offene Menschen getroffen. Die Stimmung, die Traditionen, die Musik – all das war wie ein Stück Tirol mitten im brasilianischen Dschungel.

Ein ganz besonderer Dank geht an Karina Pattis Reiter, die Tourismusmanagerin vor Ort, die mich vom Hotel abholte und mir mit großer Herzlichkeit alle besonderen Ecken des Ortes zeigte. Mit so einer Gastfreundschaft hätte ich wirklich nicht gerechnet.

Mein Aufenthalt im Park Hotel war ebenso wunderbar – ein liebevoll geführtes Haus, das perfekt zur Atmosphäre dieser besonderen Stadt passt. Am liebsten wäre ich länger geblieben.

Mein aktueller Videoblog (zu sehen auf DORFTV, LLTV oder KITZ-TV) zeigt nur einen kleinen Ausschnitt von Dreizehnlinden – aber ich habe so viele Eindrücke gesammelt, dass ich in einem nächsten Beitrag noch einmal ausführlicher berichten werde. Eigentlich hätte ich daraus einen dreistündigen Videobeitrag machen können!

Fazit: Brasilien ist ein Land voller Gegensätze – von der Millionenstadt über die tosenden Wasserfälle bis hin zur kleinen Tiroler Enklave mitten im Grünen. Wer glaubt, schon alles gesehen zu haben, wird hier eines Besseren belehrt.

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, I had the opportunity to play a very special concert at El Dorado in Kitzbühel—for my former students from Tyrol. These concerts are always very special to me, as they create a deep personal connection to the people who have accompanied and supported me over the last few years. I am delighted that young adults are still enthusiastic about my songs after all this time.
A big thank you goes to Laurin Ventola, who organized the event fantastically, and to Yanic Ascari, who made sure that this evening will also remain visually unforgettable with his videos. Without the two of them, this special moment would certainly not have been so successful.

Since I am now in Brazil and will soon be visiting the Tyrolean dropouts in Dreizehn Linden “Treze Tillias,” I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to stop by Heinz’s El Dorado again before my departure. Before heading to Kitzbühel and Brazil, I visited Julia Koss at Drehwerkstatt. Vlog No. 3 came about quite spontaneously when I found out that she and her friends wanted to produce a TikTok video for my song “Mango Action.” I found the encounter exciting, as it opened up a whole new perspective on pole dancing for me. What I previously knew only as a performance art has now revealed itself to me as a highly demanding sport that is a real physical challenge.

Am Samstag, den 27.09.2025, hatte ich die Gelegenheit ein sehr besonderes Konzert im El Dorado in Kitzbühel zu spielen – und zwar für meine ehemaligen SchülerInnen aus Tirol. Diese Konzerte sind immer etwas ganz Besonderes für mich, da sie eine tiefe persönliche Verbindung zu den Menschen schaffen, die mich in den letzten Jahren begleitet und unterstützt haben. Es freut mich riesig, dass sich nun junge Erwachsene nach all der Zeit noch immer für meine Songs begeistern können.

Ein großes Dankeschön geht an Laurin Ventola, der das Event fantastisch organisiert hat, sowie an Yanic Ascari, der mit seinen Videos dafür gesorgt hat, dass dieser Abend auch visuell unvergesslich bleibt. Ohne die beiden hätte dieser besondere Moment sicher nicht so gut umgesetzt werden können.

Da ich mittlerweile in Brasilien bin und demnächst die Tiroler Aussteiger in Dreizehn Linden „Treze Tillias“ besuchen werde, wollte ich es mir nicht nehmen lassen, vor meiner Abreise nochmals im El Dorado bei Heinz vorbeizuschauen. Bevor es nach Kitzbühel und Brasilien ging, war ich zu Besuch bei Julia Koss in der Drehwerkstatt. Der Vlog Nr. 3 entstand ganz spontan, als ich erfuhr, dass sie zusammen mit ihren Freundinnen ein TikTok-Video zu meinem Song „Mango Action“ produzieren wollte. Ich fand die Begegnung äußerst spannend, da sie mir eine völlig neue Perspektive auf den Pole Dance eröffnet hat. Was ich vorher nur als Performance-Kunst kannte, hat sich mir nun als hochanspruchsvoller Sport gezeigt, der körperlich eine echte Herausforderung darstellt.

Nun bin ich also in Brasilien angekommen, und nun warten spannende Eindrücke auf mich. Ich freue mich auf die Reise und darauf, euch in den kommenden Wochen noch mehr von meinen Erlebnissen zu berichten.

A large open-air concert was actually planned for September 12 in Traun—together with the bands Rockstory and Garden X. But as life (and the weather) sometimes goes, we had to cancel the event at short notice. The rain threw a spanner in the works – but not in the music.

Instead, we spontaneously changed our plans and played a small but excellent indoor concert at the legendary Café Bini. Together with my band – Dominik Hofer on drums and German Schwarz on bass – we rocked the show: the atmosphere was still great!

It was a very special moment for me to give another concert in my hometown of Traun shortly before my world tour. Personal, direct, and full of energy—that’s exactly how I love it. A huge THANK YOU goes to Andreas Barnreiter, the boss and owner of Traun’s cult bar Bini, who made it all possible.

According to Andreas, the Bini Summer Open Air will be rescheduled for next year – I’m already looking forward to it!

Now it’s time to pack my bags for my upcoming world tour and move on. Next stop: Kitzbühel. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, I’ll be playing live at Bar El Dorado. If you’re in the area, come by – it’ll be another unforgettable evening!

Eigentlich war für den 12. September ein großes Open-Air-Konzert in Traun geplant – gemeinsam mit den Bands Rockstory und Garden X. Doch wie das Leben (und das Wetter) manchmal so spielt, mussten wir das Event kurzfristig absagen. Der Regen hat uns einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht – aber nicht durch die Musik.

Stattdessen haben wir spontan umdisponiert und ein kleines Indoor-Konzert im legendären Café Bini gespielt. Gemeinsam mit meiner Band – Dominik Hofer am Schlagzeug und German Schwarz am Bass – haben wir den Abend gerockt. Und was soll ich sagen: Die Stimmung war trotzdem großartig!
