In my Video Blog 16, I take you along to a very special sporting highlight: the Olympic curling competitions in Italy. From the moment you step into the arena, you can feel that unique blend of tension, precision, and team spirit in the air that makes curling so fascinating. Between the perfectly prepared ice, the intense focus in the athletes’ eyes, and the distinctive sound of the stones gliding across the surface, an atmosphere emerges that captivates both players and spectators alike.

On site, I meet familiar faces from the international curling scene. Among them is Scottish skip Bruce Mouat, one of the most successful and charismatic players of his generation. It is equally exciting to briefly reconnect with Swiss curler Sven Michel, who has been part of the world’s elite for years thanks to his calm demeanor and vast experience. Encounters like these once again show how international yet close-knit the curling community truly is.
A particularly personal moment is the reunion with my Brazilian curling friends from São Paulo. We share many tournaments, training camps, and unforgettable evenings off the ice. It is inspiring to see the passion with which they promote the sport in a country where curling is still considered a niche discipline. These meetings highlight the unifying power of sport—across continents, cultures, and languages.
My journey then takes me to South Tyrol, more precisely to Bruneck. There, I visit Hubert Trenker from Niederdorf, who runs a curling facility with great dedication and plays a key role in developing the sport in the region. At the moment, even the Canadian national team, led by Olympic champion and skip Brad Jacobs, is training there. It is fascinating to observe how professionally everything is organized and how intensely the team prepares for upcoming competitions. Conversations with coaches and players provide exciting insights into training methods, tactical discussions, and mental preparation at the highest level.

The grand finale of my video blog, however, is an event many consider the most beautiful curling tournament in the world: the tournament on Lake Pragser Wildsee. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Dolomites, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and crystal-clear water, curling becomes a true winter fairytale here. Organized by ASC Curling Südtirol, the event combines sporting ambition with alpine romance. As the stones glide across the ice and the mountains reflect in the frozen lake, an atmosphere is created that leaves even the most experienced players in awe.

This video blog is therefore much more than just a sports report. It tells stories of encounters, friendships, and a passion for a sport that unites precision, strategy, and team spirit like few others. From the Olympic stage to the natural beauty of the Dolomites, curling reveals all its facets—international, emotional, and truly unique.
